Whilst in London recently for I popped in for a cuppa with the boys at Sax.co.uk to check out their new London “super store”. I’ve seen a few saxophone stores in my time.
Growing up in the far north of Australia I often dreamed of “going to the big smoke” where I could have an endless choice of instruments and saxophone stuff (I bought my piccolo from a counter in a tractor shop!).
So, as music has taken me around the world I have always explored the music stores on offer, although they haven’t always lived up to expectations.
Sax.co.uk until recently had their London home on the famous Denmark Street, in the West End. Having outgrown this they moved this year to their shiny new store on Hampstead Road.
It is absolutely amazing. At over 8000 square feet it is without a doubt the largest store of it’s kind in London and one of the largest selections of instruments on display I’ve seen.
Over the last few years the team at Sax.co.uk have become major players in the saxophone retail business and are now regarded as the world’s leading saxophone specialists, shipping saxophones worldwide.
Adrian and the team at the new London store are always really helpful and knowledgeable about their instruments.
The staff welcome you to try out the instruments in one of their 11 sound proof rooms. Plus there are a number of practice rooms for hire.
The facilities there are very impressive too. They have a number of sound proof “try out” rooms plus practice rooms available for hire downstairs.
If you get a chance I would definitely recommend a visit but beware, you probably won’t leave empty handed!
