How much does Sax School membership cost?
You can always find our current best pricing here: https://saxschoolonline.com/join-today. To make Sax School even better value for you we have Annual Plans that include Tutor Support, exclusive Community Access, Student and Celebrity Masterclasses and unlimited online access to the entire Sax School lesson library and masterclass archive. If you prefer monthly billing, contact us here.
I can’t read music – will the lessons work for me?
Absolutely. In fact many of our members also didn’t read music when they first joined. All our Sax School lessons are taught visually so you can follow note by note even if you don’t read music. However we do also have a super easy course to help you get started reading music when you are ready. After helping over 10,000 students in the past few years we can tell you that most students do start to read a little eventually with our help. It’s easier than you think and will help you learn faster. We are here to help you!
Is Sax School suitable for younger learners / kids?
Although we do have some younger learners, Sax School is really focussed on adult learners. However, if you are an independent and ambitious younger learner then you may find Sax School works for you.
Should I start on Alto or Tenor sax? Which sax is best for beginners?
It really depends on what saxophone you most like the sound of. For adults you can easily start with either alto or tenor however we generally don’t advise starting your saxophone journey on soprano or baritone (best to look at those as your second sax once you have some skills together). We have some more advice to help you with this on our blog here.
Can I buy a saxophone from you and what is the best beginner sax to buy?
We prefer to focus our energy on making world-class saxophone lessons and supporting our amazing students instead of selling saxophones. However we do have some really useful advice for which beginner saxophone to buy on our blog here.
I’m new to saxophone, will your lessons suit me?
Sure! We have helped thousands of new saxophone players just like you. In fact we have a brilliant “Quick-Start” course that will get you playing songs in no time AND with full Sax School membership you always have access to our tutors for help and guidance along the way.
Do you have advanced lessons too?
Yes. We have dedicated advanced learning “Pathways” for advanced players that include transcriptions of famous solos, advanced techniques plus improvising courses to push your jazz and pop soloing further. Also with full Sax School membership you have ongoing access to our tutor team for help and guidance if you are stuck or want to know what is best to work on next.
I play Soprano / Baritone sax – do you have lessons for me?
Absolutely. In fact many of our students also play soprano or bari sax too, so you are in good company as a Sax School member! Most of our lessons are presented on Alto sax (which is also suitable for baritone sax) AND Tenor sax (which is also suitable for Soprano players). The music and instruction is completely interchangeable so you have everything you need. Plus, as a full Sax School member you also have ongoing access to our tutor team for any specific advice about your instrument.
I need help from a tutor as well as lessons. Will I get that with Sax School?
Yes you will! Although Sax School is a self paced online learning platform where you can choose what to work on from our huge lesson and course library, as a full Sax School member you also get ongoing access to our Tutor Team. That means you can ask questions any time and get help if you’re stuck, need guidance on what to work on next or just need some encouragement. We have your back!
I’m not on Facebook. Do I still get access to your community?
Great question. Although we do have a private Facebook group exclusively for members to connect, we also have a built in Community portal inside Sax School which you can also access from our app. Even if you don’t use social media at all, you can still enjoy connecting with our other members from all over the world for encouragement and support. Our members will tell you that the Sax School member community is a pretty amazing place. I think you’ll love it too.
I’m in a different time zone and can’t attend live masterclasses.
Although we run our Student Masterclasses and Celebrity Guest Sessions at 8pm UK time, all sessions are recorded and as a full Sax School Member you have access to the replays PLUS the entire archive of all the incredible sessions we have done over the past few years. Also, we do invite members to email in questions for our sessions if you can’t attend live. And from 2021 we have also begun “Spotlight Sessions” we you can submit videos for review during our masterclasses. This means even if you can’t make it live, you can still get direct feedback from Nigel and the Tutor team on your playing.
Do you add new lessons? How will I know about these?
We are constantly adding new lessons to our main Sax School lesson library every Wednesday. Each month we also run Student Masterclasses and exclusive Guest Sessions with the best players in the world . As a full Sax School member you will always be notified of the new lessons and masterclasses by email AND via our learning app. Members can also see a list of the latest lessons inside Sax School here.
How do I cancel my membership?
You can easily cancel your Sax School Membership at any time, but please don’t go! We have new lessons every week. Plus if you’re feeling stuck, reach out to our tutors – they can help you get back on track and making progress again. Send our tutors a message using the Chat Window in Sax School, or send your tutors a message here.
If you are ready to leave, just shoot our support team a message here and we can organise that for you. ????

My payment card isn’t working – help!
Here are some things to try if your payment card isn’t working when registering for Sax School:
1. Check your card type – We accept most major debit and credit cards and Paypal. Sorry, we don’t accept prepaid cards.
2. Try using a different browser or a different device (or clear your browser’s cache / browser history).
3. Choose your currency – If you have previously bought a course or training from us in US Dollars, you will need to register for the new membership or course in US Dollars (same goes for GBP/ British Pounds purchases).
4. Still struggling, choose to pay via Paypal on the checkout page. You can still use your payment card, but this should resolve any issues.

I’ve changed my payment card – how can I update my account?
If you have an active Sax School Membership then this is super easy. Just login to your account, then click the circle in the far right of the menu (if you have uploaded your picture already, you will see your picture here instead).
Then click “Settings” and from the top menu click “Credit Card Info”. Here you can update your card details.
If you chose to use Paypal for your membership payments, you will need to log into your Paypal account to update any linked payment card.
If you joined BEFORE 25th May 2016 on the old membership area, email us for help with updating your payment card info: [email protected]
Can I change from a Monthly Plan to a cheaper Annual Plan?
Sure. Our Annual membership plans will save you a lot of money and are the most popular for our members. If you would like to change to an Annual payment plan, contact support by email here: [email protected]

I’m getting an “Email already taken” error when registering for membership. Help!
If you have purchased a course from us before (either Sax School membership or one of our detailed courses), then you will already have an account with us. If you are getting an “email already taken” error when trying to checkout, this is generally the reason why.
So, first log into your McGill Music account, then go ahead and complete the checkout for Sax School or one of our other courses.
If you can’t remember which email address you registered with, get in touch here: [email protected].
The price has gone up since I joined Sax School. Will I be charged more?
Absolutely not. If you joined on a different price plan for Sax School, you will always only pay that price for as long as you keep your membership active.
We really appreciate your support and are grateful that you want to stay a part of Sax School. So, we will NEVER increase the annual or monthly payment you have already agreed to.
How do I find out about the ACCELERATOR program?
ACCELERATOR is our most intensive personal coaching program where students have one-to-one learning with their tutor. We keep our student numbers very limited so places are rare however you can find out more and join our wait list here: www.saxschool.online/accelerator
I’m not getting emails about Live Masterclasses!
This could be because you opted to “not receive emails from us” when you first registered. That means we are unable to notify you about the extra live training events. It’s easy to fix though, just follow these steps:
- Log into Sax School
- Click on your “avatar” picture in the top right corner of the menu (if you haven’t yet added your photo, this will just be a head shape image).
- Click on “Settings”
- Make sure all of the “Please email me” boxes are checked.
- Click “Save” and you’re done. Easy peasy!
