When Alexis won our Jody Jazz mouthpiece giveaway, it was just the boost he needed to get back on track with his saxophone.
After a couple of recent setbacks, Sax School member Alexis is back to playing his sax every day with his new mouthpiece. ” In October I had an injury to my front tooth, nothing serious, but I had to stop playing for several weeks. Combined with a holiday, and a lot of pressure at work, it broke my practice routine and I completely lost the motivation to play sax”, explains Alexis. “But now, thanks to this giveaway I’m more motivated than ever!…It’s the best Christmas present I could have dreamt of.”
Learning with Sax School
Alexis has been playing saxophone for 3 years and joined Sax School a year ago. “Sax School has helped a lot, giving me some structure and resources to learn, play and practice,” says Alexis.
“The Guest Masterclasses are an invaluable resource, to learn first hand from great artists who have put a serious amount of time and dedication into their craft. I find myself having “aha” moments every time I watch one of them.”
Saxophone Family
Like so many of our members, Alexis finds our Sax School Community an essential part of his progress. “The community is what makes me stay,” he says. “Sharing my videos and watching other members’ videos is what motivates me to keep going. It gives me purpose, goals and direction”.
With Sax School, you never need to feel that you are learning on your own. “Everybody is very supportive. It’s like a great saxophone family to share your passion with others that understand, because they’re passionate about the saxophone too,” says Alexis.
New Jody Jazz Mouthpiece
Before winning his new Jody Jazz DV7, Alexis had mixed experiences with mouthpieces. “Around a year ago I got a second-handed Yamaha YTS32 tenor sax. It came with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece, so that’s what I played for some time,” he explains. “Then I watched a review of a cheap Chinese piece from Amazon and I decided to give it a go. It didn’t work out. The mouthpiece I received wasn’t that good, it was poorly finished and played too bright. So, I went back to the 4C – I still think it’s a great mouthpiece”.
Alexis chose his DV7 after advice from Jody Espina from Jody Jazz, who shared great tips in our exclusive Guest Masterclass. “I went for the DV7 because of its sound and versatility,” says Alexis. “After explaining to Jody what I was looking for, he recommended the DV 7 and I don’t regret it. I’m really grateful to Jody and Nigel for this fantastic gift.”
It’s great to see Alexis enjoying his new mouthpiece. We can’t wait to hear it in action in our Sax School Community!
