From saxophone Beginner to Performer!
Mindy is a zoo keeper in the USA by day, but always wanted to learn saxophone.
About 4 years ago she made the step and bought her first saxophone online, and soon after joined Sax School to start learning.
Mindy had never played before so began learning saxophone right from the start with Sax School – right from putting on her first reed!
Can you learn saxophone online?
Although Mindy had no teacher nearby to help her, she made amazing progress on her saxophone working through the lessons inside the Sax School members area.
“I like to just download the music for a song I’m learning and keep them on my music stand” says Mindy. She has a whole binder full of them!
“One of my favourites is “Who Can It Be Now” by Men at Work” says Mindy.
Each lesson inside Sax School also has a download area for backing tracks and worksheets so you can easily grab the resources you need to learn at home.
Learning with Sax School is very easy because you can always re-watch a section to work it out.
“I found it really helpful when Nigel slows sections down in the lesson ” says Mindy.
“I could work out the difficult parts and then put the whole solo I was learning together!”
Learning how to improvise on saxophone
Once Mindy had learned a bunch of her favourite songs and solos with Sax School, she moved on to develop other skills.
“Once I had learned about 30 tunes, I moved onto the Improvising and Altissimo courses inside Sax School” says Mindy.
The Sax School Members Area is packed with a full range of courses and over 700 lessons to help you improve your skills, whatever your playing level is.
“I feel like I’m improving every day”

Becoming a gigging saxophone player
Mindy’s “big goal” was always to play with other musicians in her area.
“I was really lucky to know some people locally who run a band, and they invited me to sit in with them” says Mindy.
A lot of the songs Mindy played were tunes and solos she had learned inside Sax School so she felt very prepared for this big step.
“Over the past 2 years since my first ever gig, I’ve played live 27 times!”.
Although it’s a gradual process, with each “gig” Mindy’s confidence has grown.
Mindy has still never had an “in person” lesson on her saxophone and is totally self taught with the help of Sax School.
“It’s totally possible to learn saxophone online” says Mindy.
