AsiaSax built her saxophone empire on social media from scratch. Here’s how.
The Saxophone World Has Changed
If you’re learning saxophone today, especially as an adult, the landscape looks very different from what it did even five years ago. The digital world isn’t just for influencers and viral dancers—it’s a powerful tool for musicians too. That’s why in this episode of our Sax School podcast, I sat down with a saxophonist who’s cracked the code on social media: Joanna Wroblewska, known to her fans as AsiaSax.
With over 187,000 Instagram followers and millions of views across TikTok and other platforms, Joanna has turned her saxophone playing into a powerful personal brand. But how did she get there? And more importantly, what can you learn from her journey?
Finding Her Voice: From Classical Roots to Pop Star
AsiaSax didn’t start as a pop saxophone sensation. Like many of our Sax School students, she came from a classical saxophone background. After graduating from music academy and working as a teacher, Joanna began to feel stuck.
“I was always classically trained… I didn’t feel confident as a soloist,” Joanna admitted during our chat.
Feeling creatively boxed in, she took a leap and began experimenting with pop and smooth jazz styles. She swapped her classical mouthpiece for a more contemporary setup and started recording videos on her phone, posting them online without any fancy equipment.
One of her first breakthroughs? A cover of “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. It wasn’t staged or overly polished—just her, in a sweatshirt on the couch, playing from the heart. That post exploded, and her follower count started to snowball.
Building a Brand, One Reel at a Time
What makes AsiaSax so relatable isn’t just her sound—it’s her honesty and persistence. She’s not a tech wizard. She records with GarageBand and free software like Audacity. Her interface is a budget model. Her secret weapon? Consistency, fun, and connection. And, you could do this too whether you play pop songs like AsiaSax, jazz, classical or even DJ Sax.
“I didn’t have a plan. I just started posting regularly and saw what worked.”
Joanna’s 4-Step Process for Instagram Success
Here’s the rules AsiaSax used to get fast progress on Instagram and TikTok. Put these into action yourself:
1. Just Start
Don’t wait for the perfect saxophone mic, lighting, or technique. Use what you’ve got and press record. Many of our Sax School members struggle with perfectionism—Joanna’s story proves that starting scrappy is better than never starting at all.
2. Make It Fun
Whether you’re learning to play saxophone with confidence or trying to post your first video, enjoyment matters. If you’re not having fun, your audience will know.
3. Be Consistent
Joanna’s growth didn’t happen overnight. She posted frequently and kept showing up. That visibility adds up, whether you’re trying to learn saxophone online or grow an audience.
4. Connect Authentically
Answer comments. Share your process. Let people see the real you. As Joanna says, “You have to show that you’re a real person, not just a perfect musician.”
Lessons for Adult Learners
Joanna’s journey is especially inspiring for adult learners. Whether you’re just picking up the sax or coming back after a long break, it’s easy to feel intimidated by the world of online content. But as we see in her story, you don’t need to be a jazz master or gear guru to make your mark.
If you’re searching for adult beginner saxophone lessons or trying to break through a creative plateau, take a page from Joanna’s book: experiment, be consistent, and share your joy.
And remember, Sax School Online is here to support you every step of the way.
