My favourite note on the sax
Do you have a favourite note to play on the saxophone? Mine is low B flat. I use this note all the time when I’m warming up and in my saxophone practice sessions. Here’s how I use it.
I am working on getting a really great tone on that low B flat.
And then I try to keep that embouchure as I’m playing through my whole range.
Then I know I’m going to be able to get a really great sound across the whole range on my sax.

How to use low B flat in your warm-up
This is something we talk about to our Sax School members all the time. And inside Sax School, we’ve got loads of exercises to help you work on this.
But if you want a quick tip on how to use low B flat in your saxophone practice, here we go:
- Grab your tuner. And if you’ve got a tuner that plays a drone – even better.
- Set your tuner to play a drone note.
- Start with the low B flat then move around the range of the saxophone
- See if you can keep it in tune without moving your embouchure.
I recommend the Tonal Energy tuner app. Download it onto your smartphone for a tuner in your pocket.
