This is one of the most iconic solos recorded by Louis Prima’s legendary saxophonist Sam Butera.
It is one of the best examples of that great, gutsy 1950’s style of playing that bridged jazz and Rock n Roll. Sam was hugely successful during his long career with Louis Prima and also as a solo artist.
The 1950’s was a brilliant period for saxophone with a bunch of incredible players. These guys were great performers as well as players and it’s important to check out their style because what they were doing became the foundation for all contemporary “commercial” playing styles today.
Other artists to explore from this period include Lee Allen, Red Prysock, and Boots Randolph.
